Authorities in Glynn County say a man was arrested after a bicyclist was struck and killed by car in a hit-and-run.
Corporal William Nease of the Georgia State Patrol says 18-year-old Mikeal Hodges was riding a bicycle on U.S. Highway 17 around 12:30 Monday morning when he was hit by a car.
Glynn County Coroner Jimmy Durden says he died later at a hospital.
Nease says 24-year-old Enrique Martinez was stopped just minutes after Hodges was hit when a state trooper saw that one of the headlights on Martinez's car was out and then noticed front-end damage. The trooper also heard a Glynn County police alert about the hit-and-run.
Nease says Martinez has been charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, hit-and run, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. He was jailed without bail at the Glynn County Detention Center.
