Savannah Celebrates City Hall Renovations Friday

The public is invited to a free picnic lunch, music, displays and tours during a special ceremony at noon on Friday, June 13, in Johnson Square to mark the completion of the nine-month-long City Hall restoration.



Mayor Otis Johnson will preside, and the event will feature the unfurling of the Garrison Flag, which will grace the front of City Hall through Independence Day. The first 500 people in attendance will receive a special medallion to mark the occasion.



The $2 million project involved the first complete exterior renovation of City Hall in its 102-year-old history.



Work included:

- replacement of the cupola

- construction of a new roof and installation of copper flashing

- repair, waterproofing and regilding of the dome

- repointing, crack repair and cleaning of the limestone and granite exterior
