This week we're teaming up with the Savannah Morning News to begin a series of political forums. It will be your chance to ask the candidates some tough questions. The first forum -- set for tonight -- will feature candidates for one of Savannah's Georgia Senate seats.
With longtime State Senator Regina Thomas running for congress, Georgia's Senate District two --- which covers most of Savannah and Western Chatham County --- is up for grabs in a three-way race.
Retired college administrator and columnist Dr. Bettye Anne Battiste is a Savannah native, served 9 years on the school board, and navigated the political world of academia for decades. Former students describe her as strict and demanding.
While Savannah Innkeeper Kevin Clark holds a degree in philosophy and religion, he is no stranger to politics. As a member of Georgia Equality, he has fought for gay rights on the local and state level. A native of Missouri, Clark moved here in 1995 and runs a bed and breakfast in the metropolitan neighborhood.
Dentist and longtime politician Lester Jackson first won a spot in the state legislature ten years ago. The navy veteran and savannah native is one of our most powerful legislators. It is unclear how much of that political clout would transfer to the state senate.
