information from the city of Savannah:
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The City of Savannah announced that distribution for its recent publication, Low Land and the High Road: Life and Community in the Hudson Hill, West Savannah and Woodville Neighborhoods, has been completed. The 139-page book explores the untold story of how industry and workers combined to produce a vibrant community on the city’s west side.
Over 1,700 copies of the book, written by Dr. Martha Keber, were distributed without charge to Savannah residents. “An overwhelmingly positive community response demonstrates that Savannahians hunger for the authentic voices that Dr. Keber so skillfully wove into the fabric of her narrative,” said Michelle Hunter, the project manager. “The citizens who are heard in the pages of Low Land have gifted Savannah with a book which will continue to embody the essence of the west side’s past, current, and future value.”
Copies of the publication will be retained for public viewing in the circulating collections of the Live Oak Public Libraries, of Armstrong Atlantic State University, and of Savannah State University.
The book's companion online multi-media exhibition, www.savannahneighborhoods.org, will continue to be available.
