Chatham County E-Recycles

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Did you know that electronics account for 2% to 5% of landfill volume, but contributes up to 70% of the toxins found in landfills?

Tybee Island neighbors want to help cut those numbers down and so today they held an E-Recycling event as part of a county-wide program.  Folks brought out anything from computers to tape drives and modems to the free event that was put on by the Tybee Recycling Center

Jackie Cary, City of Tybee Public Works Department:

"If they can't reuse them and give them to people that need them, then I'm sure that they would break them down the way that they need to be so that the harmful elements of the electronics won't go into the dumps and fill up our landfills with harmful things."

Which is a good thing considering there is currently more than 4 billion pounds of E-Waste brought to landfills each year.
