Tybee Firefighters Collecting Money for Burn Victims

»  Comments | Post a Comment

For all of you who are heading out to the beach on Tybee tomorrow, don't forget your sunscreen, towel and some extra money to donate to a great cause. The Tybee Island fire department will be collecting money for the boot drive.

Firefighters and their trucks will be at the corner of Campbell and Highway 80 -- something they do every year, but this year, all of the money collected will be donated to the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation. Money from the foundations goes to the burn center in Augusta, where many victims from the imperial sugar explosion were taken.

Kyle Rausch, a Tybee Firefighter, says, “It means a lot, we were there when the first call went out for mutual aid. We came as fast as we could to help everybody, there were a few families that hit real close to a lot of members of our department, so three's some relations there and close friends and we just want to do our part to help and make the road to recovery a lot easier for everybody.”

The money will also go to a burn camp for children. The boot drive will be tomorrow from 10 until 2 at the intersection of Campbell and Highway 80.
