An organization with a mission to help others is getting some big help itself.
While watching New 3 Monday evening, Jimmy Davis saw our story about the American Red Cross falling victim to thieves. Catalytic converters cut from a number of their vehicles, leaving the organization with some big rental and repair bills – a problem Davis thought he could help solve.
First thing Tuesday morning he called up News 3 – and we put him in touch with the Red Cross.
Jimmy Davis said, "I explained to them what I was going to do - I was going to go ahead and donate the catalytic converters, the labor, the piping - as long as they could get them to me."
They could and did, towing five of the 12 vehicles not already undergoing repair up to Davis' shop in Brooklet. Repairs on the five vehicles should take about a day and half's labor, plus he's footing the cost of the parts. But it's something Davis says he's glad to do.
Says Davis, "Why not? Why not give back to the community - the Red Cross - they've been there for basically everybody that has needed them - everywhere around the country - hurricane victims, everybody - I mean everybody needs somebody. I did it just because."
And because he did, the Red Cross can now use the money saved for its intended purpose – extending a helping hand to others.
Mike Lee of the Red Cross says, "It's going to make a great deal of difference because each of our districts you know, have their own budget and the budget with the Red Cross in general is not very big."
