The Salvation Army is getting an early start on raising money for the holiday season, with the official kick-off to their kettle drive taking place on Friday, November 14th.
Held at the Wal-Mart on Highway 17 and 204, the official kick-off included the sounds of the tubas and trumpets of the Salvation Army band, as well as another well-known holiday sound, those familiar bells.
The red kettles will be out in front of dozens of stores, waiting for people to fill them with money.
The money collected goes not only towards helping provide those less fortunate with food and toys this holiday season, but also in assisting people all year long. Traditionally, the Salvation Army kettle drives begins on Black Friday. Greater needs than in past years as well as concerns about getting less donations this holiday season has led to the earlier start.
