If you're considering buying a new television before the digital transition on February 17th, one group is asking that you think before you just throw out your old one.
The Electronics TakeBack Coalition says in many cases, the televisions are toxic. For example, old TV tubes contain 4 to 8 pounds of lead. It's asking consumers to do some research on how to recycle responsibily. It's created a "Consumer's Guide to Recycling Your Old TV"
The group also offers a list of TV manufacturers that now have programs in place to recycle their old products. It's asking consumers to take that information into account when buying a new TV. The Electronics TakeBack Coalition has put together a "Report Card" grading TV manufacturers on their recycling programs.
