Neighbors in a Tattnall County community are wondering tonight what blew through their area.
A storm hit around 7:45 Thursday morning near Reidsville. That's about 74 miles west of Savannah. The Lynntown Community got the brunt of the damage.
"It started hailing real, real bad," says Diane Hutcheson. She was across the street at her neighbor's house, but she took her chances and ran out into the storm.
"To check on my son because he was over here asleep," says Diane. What she found was a mess: a window in her trailer knocked out by flying debris and rain gushing into her bedroom.
Her shed is standing now, but the storm knocked it over front first. "As you can tell where it blew over, it broke the lock off and broke the piece of the door thing here."
All of the underskirting on Diane's trailer is not where it should be. Then there's the workers.
"They're fixing the pipe. The wind blew the pumphouse off of it. It had broke the pipe connecting it to the ground pipe that goes to the house," says Diane.
Two yards down from Diane's, Debbie Willis is checking out her damage. "This top came off of that utility shed."
Pieces of her utility shed are scattered across the yard. She's just glad the storm and the damage weren't worse. "It did scare me and I'm ashamed of that because I'm a Red Cross worker and I'm supposed to be a brave soldier that gets out there and helps people," says Debbie.
Sometimes scary situations make people do things that are out of character for them. "My husband says you were crazy for running out in it. In the middle of it. But I said, ‘My baby was in the house.’ Momma's have to check on their babies," explains Diane.
As for her baby, the 22-year-old is standing right beside her.
Some say the storm was a tornado, others, just strong wind. Whatever it was, luckily, no one got hurt.
Other damage included downed trees and a collapsed carport.
