Saturday September 13, 2008 marks Savannah's second annual GreenFest. GreenFest will be held on the grounds of the Trustees Garden, at 88 Randolph Street, where The Market at Trustees Garden has been held the first Wednesdays of the summer months. GreenFest starts at 9am, to continue with GreenFest's theme of “Connect & Take Action” GreenFest 08' is focusing on the importance of “Sustainable Food Practices” by buying local and organic produce and supporting local farmers.
Green Lifespace “Guidance for Going Green”, a Savannah based green consulting firm is proud to host a Culinary challenge between Chef Matt Roher of Cha-Bella and Chef Matt Cohen of The New South Cafe where they will go head to head in Culinary Duel. They will be judged for the plates creativity, taste and green factor and awarded “GreenFest Top Chef” at 4:30pm. The winning restaurant will showcase their award inside their restaurant for one year and will hand off the next year’s winner.
Savannah Yoga Center will be offering mini yoga classes. Farmer’s Almanac TV will be demonstrating how to make your own raised bed. AWOL will be taking in old computers and refurbishing them to give to lower income families. City of Savannah's THRIVE initiative will be there to answer questions and allow residents of Savannah to sign the pledge. City of Savannah Water department will be giving away water bottles and pitchers and information on water conservation.
GreenFest will also launch the new weekly markets at Trustees Garden. Every Wednesday starting on September 24 from 4 – 7p, locals will be able to go to the Charles H Morris center weekly to get local and organic fresh produce, listen to live music and buy local art.
