The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for
minor flooding of poor drainage areas in the following southeast
Georgia counties:
northwest Bryan county
Bulloch county
Candler county
Effingham county
Evans county
Jenkins county
northwest Liberty county
western Long county
Screven county
Tattnall county
Effective until 4:15 pm edt
Additionally.... the following southeast Georgia counties have
flood advisories in effect until 7:15pm this evening.....
Appling county
Atkinson county
Bacon county
Clinch county
Coffee county
Echols county
Jeff Davis county
Pierce county
Ware county
Wayne county
Doppler radar has indicated rainfall rates of 1/2 to 3/4 inch in an
hours time will continue... on top of the 3 to 6 inches that has
already fallen since last night.
This heavy rainfall will result in significant ponding of water on
area roads and in low spots. Slow down to reduce the risk of
hydroplaning. If water covers the entire roadway or is flowing...find
another route. The water is probably much deeper than it appears and
only one foot of water can stall a vehicle. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice...turn around...dont drown.
Keep children away from drainage ditches...storm sewers and creeks.
even a small amount of moving water has enough force to knock down
and carry away children.
