The son of a murdered Savannah police officer speaking out today about the convicted killer.
We told you yesterday that a federal appeals court rejected an effort by Troy Anthony Davis to escape the death penalty. Davis was convicted of the 1989 killing of Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail. Yet over the years, several witnesses have recanted their stories.
Last October, the 11th circuit stayed Davis' execution, just an hour before it was to take place.
Mark MacPhail's son tells us it's been two decades since his father's murder and says news about the appeal is what they've been waiting to hear for a long time. "It’s a horrible thing to say but after a while you kind of get used to it. It's a roller coaster ride that keeps going."
Mark MacPhail Jr. says they expect Davis' lawyers to send a petition to the Supreme Court, but hope he'll be denied again. "What I’m hoping for is that justice will be upheld. An officer of the law was slain and the law says Troy Anthony Davis did it and that he has to pay the consequences."
