Savannah, GA April 20, 2009: On Saturday, April 25, from 10 am to 1 pm the West Broad Street YMCA will host “Healthy Kids Day” sponsored by Amerigroup and the Chatham County Health Department. Deborah Enoch, Program Director at the Y, is working with the Health Department and Amerigroup to develop a full day of family fun. There will be a variety of activities – games, relay races, jump rope competition, kick ball, dancing – designed to promote health and fitness through fun.
“This is an annual event,” says Enoch. “It is a great time for the family to come and play and learn more about the simple choices they can make to live a healthy life style.” Along with the activities, there will be free snacks and beverages, “All of which are healthy and can be done at home,” adds Enoch.
There will a series of special exhibitions including martial arts, hip hop dancing, and other demonstrations. The West Broad Street YMCA, which is undergoing much needed renovations as funds from the community permit, has just completed a renovation of its workout room. “Thanks to the generosity of many volunteers, including a group of teens from Virginia, we now have a great exercise room that has low-impact elliptical, treadmills, and stair step machines, as well as free weights and other muscle building equipment. We have it covered from aerobics to body building,” Enoch says. “We want people to visit our facility and see our progress. We are even running a membership special. For as little as $10 a month, people can have access to our new exercise equipment.”
