SAVANNAH – Ronin, a 14-week-old black Labrador Retriever, is missing in Savannah, Georgia.
Ronin is a guide dog in training who was lost near Montgomery Street and Interstate 16 on Tuesday, April 21 at 2 a.m. after his caretaker suffered non-life threatening injuries in a traffic accident.
The puppy was wearing a collar with identification tags, and has the number 6211 tattooed on his left ear.
If you have any information regarding Ronin, please contact Deana Izzo, the Guide Dog Foundation’s field representative at 706-372-6197 or the Foundation’s Puppy Department in New York at 866-282-8046.
Ronin is part of the Vision project, a collaborative effort between the Guide Dog Foundation, the Georgia Department of Corrections, and Middle Georgia Technical College, where inmates learn to be veterinarian technicians or assistants while raising puppies. To expose the pups to experiences outside prison, special weekend volunteers pick the dogs up Friday afternoon and return them Monday morning.
At about 14-16 months old, the dogs return to the Guide Dog Foundation’s Smithtown, New York campus to begin their training as guide or assistance dogs for blind, visually impaired, or other disabled individuals.
Since 1946, the Guide Dog Foundation has been improving the quality of life for people who are blind, visually impaired, or who have other disabilities and who desire the enhanced mobility, independence, and companionship a guide or service dog provides.
