“We tried to keep it still. We called 911.” Terri Greco calls these ducks her friends. "They come in to our yard. I have an 8 year-old little boy. He loves them." For ten years her family has cared for the ducks in their village green neighborhood, but this week someone launched a vicious attack against the ducks, leaving them with injuries. "My husband hollered for me. We went outside and the male duck had like 5..4 or 5 darts through his head. The one that was the worst is the one that's through the neck," say Terri. The incident happened somewhere along this canal in Village Green. "These ducks were shot with 4 inch blow darts just like this one to their heads and even their eyes. Now they will be taken to the vet for treatment." Cindy Webber operates Eden Wildlife Center. She helped rescue these ducks. "Have you seen anything quite as bad as this?" "Not down here in Georgia. I mean this is definitely cruelty. If people think that it doesn't hurt the birds then they're sorely mistaken. They wouldn't want to be running around with these darts in them," says Cindy. No one knows who did it or why. "Terri, what would you and your husband Mike like to see happen to the person or persons responsible?" "I'd like them prosecuted because it just it's something that shouldn't have happened."
Metro Police say that there is a mandatory court appearance for anyone caught harming these ducks. The judge will then decide the fine. If you know anything that might lead to who's behind all this call Cindy Webber at Eden Wildlife Center at 912-748-9956.
Cindy says the doctor removed the dart shot in one of the duck's throat. Both were given antibiotics. They will be sore for a while, but in the future Cindy will find a safe haven for them to be taken care of.
