The man accused of stalking Miley Cyrus is now back in the Chatham County Jail after being arrested at his home in Appling in Columbia County. Mark McLeod was originally taken into custody on Tybee back on June 22nd - charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of an officer. He had allegedly been making "inappropriate" comments to young girls, then began screaming obscenities and tried to headbutt an officer who took him into custody. That incident happened after Mcleod made some strange comments to a New York Daily News photographer outside a Miley book signing back in March.
Mcleod is now back in custody - this time charged with criminal intent stalking after allegedly returning to Tybee this past weekend and trying to find the young star. Tybee police have been keeping an eye out for Mark McLeod ever since he was released from the Chatham County Jail a day after his arrest back in June. No one was sure where he was until they got a call from movie security Sunday afternoon. Mark McLeod was reported to be on the south end of the island - near where the film equipment is set up. Tybee Police Chief Jimmy Price says, “He went up to the security and asked them - is Miley around? You know - and other people in the area - does Miley live over there? Does Miley live here?”
Police say he disappeared shortly thereafter - before they arrived on the scene. Due to child labor laws - Miley doesn't work on Sunday - so she wasn't around. But police felt they had enough to charge McLeod. Chief Price says, “With his history in the past we've had with him - the Tybee Island Police Department - there was enough probable cause and enough evidence to feel that we should do something at this time.”
Tuesday afternoon a warrant was signed for his arrest on a misdemeanor charge of criminal intent stalking. Just about an hour later - Columbia County deputies took McLeod into custody at his Appling home. He was picked up by Chatham County deputies and brought to the Chatham County Jail late this afternoon. He was arraigned at the Detention Center by the Tybee Island Magistrate Judge Wednesday evening. He is being held on a $50,000 dollar bond and has been ordered to stay off Tybee Island and away from Miley Cyrus.
