Dr. Thomas Lockamy, superintendent for Savannah-Chatham County schools, has had his contract extended for another year by the school board. Dr. Lockamy is now signed on for another 3 years with the district. (Superintendents cannot have contracts for longer than 3 years, so this is one of several times Lockamy's has been extended)

Dr. Lockamy tells me that with these tough economic times, it would not be right for him to accept a raise or other perks that come with his job, so he's deferring them. Lockamy has been with the district since 2005.

Lockamy will also be taking 5 furlough days, or days without pay from now until the end of December, along with other administrators. Teachers and other staff members will have three furlough days. The entire district will be closed on August 25th. The other furlough days for teachers will be November 4th and January 4th.
