JASPER COUNTY, S.C. - A South Carolina murder suspect is in custody after a manhunt that went over the river and through the woods of two states.
The Jasper County Sheriff's Office was searching for 44 year-old Terry Dean Swanger.
Deputies say the original call at 1:30 p.m. started as a welfare check, then turned into a murder case.
Authorities searched around Hardeeville and across the Savannah River in Effingham County.
Friday evening, the manhunt focused on the woods along Purrysburg Road.
The search included K-9's, the Department of Natural Resources, and a helicopter from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Swanger was caught around 7:30 p.m. in the woods off Old Charleston Highway.
Chief Deputy Roy Hughes said he could not release the female victim's name or her relation to Swanger.
