As we told you last night on News 3, blood banks have a desperate need for blood in the summer because people are on vacation and students, who account for 20 % of blood donors, are not in school.
One Savannah college student decided to do something about the shortage, also hoping to get a $3,000 scholarship from the American Red Cross.
The blood drive Samantha Buice organized was held Wednesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Skidaway Island. Samantha says it's about the community coming together to help.
"It is just really great to see how much support we have ah that my drive is just you know so important to the world, to the community and that people come out. It's really a great feeling."
At 3:30 p.m., they had 35 donors.
