This afternoon will be the first reading of the property tax millage rate for 2009 by the Savannah city council.

The millage rate would be 0.01250 mills or $12.50 per $1,000 of assessed value. The council will also hear the first reading to adopt a special service district tax rate for the Water Transportation District of .2 mills on the dollar or $.20 per $1,000 in assessed value.

The millage will stay the same from 2008-2009. City officials tell News 3 this would be the first time in 5 years the millage would stay the same.

This is the same millage rate the city council signed off on last year, but they weren't able to approve it until the tax digest came out in July.

The council will formally adopt the millage rate at their next meeting.
