Effingham Deputies Bust Meth Lab

Seven people are behind bars and a methamphetamine lab has been recovered after an extensive investigation by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Team.

Seven people are behind bars and a methamphetamine lab has been recovered after an extensive investigation by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Team. Deputies ended their operation Tuesday evening after locating a Meth lab in the 1300 block of Zittrourer Road in South Effingham County. Deputies say a search of the home turned up over 300 grams of methamphetamine, a clandestine meth lab, a marijuana plant and two guns. A seven year old child was also removed from the home where the suspects were believed to have been cooking tthe methamphetamine. Four people were arrested near the meth lab on Zittrourer Road. Investigators say a total of seven have been arrested since Friday August 14th, 2009 on meth related charges stemming from the same operation. Their names and charges are as follows:

Watson Mccoy Spell, 31, of Springfield, Bridget Lanier, 26, of Guyton, and Melissa Christine Spell, 29, of Guyton, have all been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, manufacturing marijuana, unlawful possession of pseudoephedrine, and manufacturing methamphetamine in the presence of a child.

Mathew David Wright, 32, of Bloomingdale, has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, and unlawful possession of pseudoephedrine.

Edward Lynn, 28, of Guyton, and April Marie Bryant, 24, of Guyton, have both been charged with possession of marijuana, and conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

Charles Jackson, 43, of Port Wentworth, has been charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, and disorderly conduct.


Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said “Anyone suspecting a meth lab is strongly encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office. Meth labs often involve highly dangerous and explosive materials that can pose serious physical danger, and should not be taken lightly.“
All suspects were transported to the Effingham County Jail.
