Cooking for a Good Cause

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Competition is heating up... literally, as Savannah Technical College culinary students get ready to square off in a head-to-head competition to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) in Savannah.

The students are enrolled this summer in the Baking and Contemporary American Cuisine courses taught by Chef Jean Vendeville, department head and instructor of Culinary Arts.

The competition, called "The Chef of the House Challenge", pits chefs against each other to create a three-course meal featuring an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Each chef will cook for the families served at the Savannah House as well as the Judges of the competition. The event takes place August 27 at the Ronald McDonald House from 3 to 7 PM.

The Ronald McDonald House is a 10-bedroom "home-away-from home" that provides comfort and a place to stay for parents with critically ill or injured children. The House operates at nearly 100% occupancy, every day of the year. It costs RMHC $65 per day to provide its brand of hospitality for each family.

For more information about the Chef of the House Challenge, contact Mindy Nash 912-356-5520 or e-mail her at: mindy@rmhccoastalempire.org.
