School starts for Savannah-Chatham County students next week. Teachers are already back at school.
Today, First Student bus drivers headed back to work, doing dry runs or practice runs before they have to do the real thing next Tuesday, but the drivers have some health concerns as they head back to work.
"There was a bunch of mold on the buses and we were concerned that the drivers and the students would be put on theses buses with mold on them and get people sick so we came here to address the issue,” says Eric Robertson, business agent with Teamsters, Local 728.
“So, what is the school district going to be going to make sure that these buses are safe for children come next week?” I ask the district’s transportation director.
”Well, we were just made aware that there was an issue with mold, so what we're doing is working with first student to make sure that the buses are clean before the first day of school,” explains Cedric Burse, director of transportation for SCCPSS.
There was an altercation just outside of First Student's gates after the meeting about mold.
METRO Police are investigating.
