We've all heard it before- breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In fact, experts say kids who eat a healthy breakfast do better in school. But not everyone has the time or the money to fill up before heading to class.
This year, several Savannah-Chatham County Public elementary and middle schools will take part in a program to feed more students at no cost through the Universal Free School Breakfast. The program is a federal food initiative that offers free breakfast to all students, regardless of income. It is usually available at schools that have a high percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced price meals.
The program will begin at the following schools beginning Tuesday, September 1:
Elementary: Islands Elementary, Spencer Elementary, Gadsden Elementary, Hodge Elementary Garden City Elementary, Garrison Elementary, East Broad Elementary, Butler Elementary, Bartow Elementary, Haven Elementary, Juliette Low Elementary, Thunderbolt Elementary
Middle: Myers Middle, Shuman Middle, Hubert Middle
Meal applications are available in room 308 at the SCCPSS Administration Building, located at 208 Bull Street. For more information on the Universal Free Breakfast Program, contact Altheria Y. Maynard at (912) 395-1000 ext.1130.
