Georgia and South Carolina Closings Due To Severe Weather Potential

Schools, events, etc., all listed here. UPDATE: All SCCPSS schools are clear. Students have been sent home or are currently in route to their homes. A team of district personnel will begin inspecting school buildings at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning to ensure that schools are operable.

Government Closings
--Chatham County Recorder's Court closed at 1:00 p.m. today due to anticipated severe weather. Afternoon court session is cancelled and will be rescheduled.
-- Social Security Office located in Savannah is closed for the rest of the afternoon. Any inquiries can be made at 1-866-366-4923.
--Chatham County Sheriff's Department is suspending inmate visitation for the remainder of the evening.

Churches
--The Isle of Hope United Methodist Church has cancelled all activities for Wednesday evening.
--Savannah Christian Church cancels Wednesday night meal, service, and programming including small group classes. All buildings will be closed until Thursday.
--Coastal Cathedral on Waters Avenue -- no Wednesday services
--Calvary in Savannah -- No Wednesday Services or On-Campus Activities
--Branded Hearts Church in Savannah will not be having Wednesday night services.

Colleges/Universities
--Georgia Southern University has all canceled evening classes. Classes wil resume Thursday.
--Savannah State University will CLOSE at 1 p.m. today. Classes are cancelled and administrative offices are closed. The cafeteria and Tiger Café in the King-Frazier Student Center will maintain normal hours for residential students; the kiosk is closed. --Savannah Technical College to close all locations at 3 p.m.
--Armstrong Atlantic State University is closed as of 1 p.m. Wednesday. All classes in Savannah, Brunswick and the Liberty Campus in Hinesville are canceled for the afternoon and evening. The university will reopen tomorrow and will operate on a normal schedule.
--Savannah School Massage Therapy has canceled afternoon and evening classes. Tomorrow's class schedule will be decided later.
--University of Phoenix--Savannah Campus is closes until Thursday
--Coastal Georgia Center--Evening Classes Canceled.
--South UniversitySavannah will be closing at 4:00pm today due to inclement weather. Normal university operations are expected to resume Thursday morning.
--Both campuses of the University of South Carolina Beaufort will be suspending all classes and campus activities at 5:00pm today.
--The Technical College of the Lowcountry will be closing as of 4:00 p.m. due to inclement weather. Classes are cancelled. This includes the Beaufort, Bluffton-New River and Hampton campuses.

After School and Other Programs
--Beaufort County afterschool activities have been cancelled today.
--Chatham YMCA--Fun Club, Pryme Tyme and all after school programs are cancelled Wednesday. Parents need to pick up their children no later than 3 p.m. from Pre-K and Day Care sites.
--Massie Heritage Center will close today at 12:30 PM. Offices will reopen at 8:00 AM on Thursday, December 3, 2009, with the museum open at 9:00 AM.
--Oatland Island will close today at noon.

K-12 Schools
--The Savannah Chatham County School System will let out early today because of bad weather. Middle and High School students will be released at 12, Elementary students at 1 p.m. Dr. Thomas Lockamy says “this is important for the safety of students."
First Student is also transporting special needs students today as students are released early due to inclement weather. However, if someone is not available to these students at their drop-off locations, these students will be transported back to their home school. Pre-K students will also be returned to their school if someone is not available at their drop-off location.
--St. Peter the Apostle School is closing 2 p.m.
--Benedictine is closing early and wants all students off campus by 1 p.m.
--Savannah Country Day School will close at 1:30 this afternoon. Buses will run at that time, leaving campus at 1:45. There will be NO after-school activities this afternoon.
--Calvary Day will dismiss school at 1:00 PM today. High School students who drive must have parent permission for them to be released. Please call the school office at (912) 644-5080 to give this permission for your student. All athletic events and practices are canceled for today.
--Richmond Hill primary, elementary, carver elementary, closing at 2:40
--Richmond Hill middle and high closing at 1:40
--All North Bryan schools are closing at 1:40. If child usually rides bus, bus transportation is available to them. If child normally goes to after-school, they will go to their normal afterschool location. If child is normally picked up, pick them up at the times of dismissal.
--The Effingham County School District is monitoring the potential for severe weather to affect the Effingham County area later this afternoon. The school district will follow regular dismissal procedures and bus routes will run as normal. School principals will be monitoring weather conditions and any alerts from the National Weather service at each school during bus departure to insure a safe and orderly dismissal. A decision regarding after school activities will be announced later this afternoon.
--Savannah Christian Prep School is dismissing upper school students at 2:30 (half hour early.) Lower and middle school classes will be dismissed at the normal time. However, parents may pick up their children early if they like.
