Savannah, GA - SCCPSS: The Superintendent’s Student of the Month for November is Melissa Vargas, a senior at Groves High School. Nominated by several of her teachers, Melissa was chosen for her academic performance and positive attitude.
When asked to describe Melissa, her counselor Abby Watson states, “she is an amazing student who not only performs outstanding academically, but also has a great personality. She is a highly motivated person and displays a can do attitude in every situation she faces. Working with Melissa is always a pleasure.”
Melissa obtained Honors trophies for Latin, French, Algebra/Trig, 11th Grade Lit and Chemistry. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Soccer, Mythology Club, and the Latin Dance Club. She received the Georgia Certificate of Merit for placing in the top 5% of her class. This National American Miss State Finalist finds time to help others as an English as a Second Language tutor.
When asked what motivates her to strive for academic success, Melissa gives a very practical answer- “Knowing that I will have to pay for college if I don’t have a competitive attitude.”
Melissa’s future plans are to attend a military academy. She was recently awarded a trip to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado based on her outstanding pre-qualifications.
