The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an ongoing series of burglaries at vacation/rental homes on Hilton Head Island.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (December 14/10:45 AM) – The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an ongoing series of burglaries at vacation/rental homes on Hilton Head Island. Over the last two weeks, deputies have responded to multiple burglaries at vacant rental/vacation homes, both in North and South end neighborhoods. Investigators say approximately 17 homes in the North and South Forest Beach Rd areas were reportedly burglarized last week.
On Saturday morning, Sheriff’s deputies responded to five burglaries in the Burke’s Beach area on the North end of the island. Investigators say homes on both First and Second Streets off of Burke’s Beach appeared to have been broken into during the previous night. Flat screen televisions appear to be the target of thefts in the recent burglaries, with multiple TV’s reportedly stolen from the homes. Investigators say evidence of forced entry was found at each location, with locked doors pried open in the garage areas of each home.
People who live in the area are encouraged to secure their property by keeping doors and windows locked and using security systems when available. It is also suggested that homeowners attempt to document all valuables by recording make, models, serial numbers, and/or accurate descriptions, as this information can be essential in recovery efforts should items ever be stolen. In addition to increased officer presence in the area, residents are being asked to keep an eye out for and promptly report any suspicious person(s), vehicles, or activities to authorities.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to contact Investigator MSgt M. Riley at 843-842-4111 ext 250 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
