Metro Police arrest one man but continue to investigate westside shooting

SAVANNAH, GA (December 24, 2009) Savannah-Chatham Metro Police tell us they have arrested one man following an early morning shooting on Augusta Road.

18-year-old Erick Hakeem Lawrence was taken into custody following a shooting and traffic stop in the Augusta Road area early Thursday morning. Police say that Lawrence was traveling with two other people, 18 year old Shaketa Davis and 19 year old Raheem Alajuan Sabb. The vehicle was stopped about 12:30 a.m. Officers say Sabb was found shot in the vehicle. Officers heard gunshots in the area of Augusta Road and witnessed a car departing the area at a high rate of speed. They also saw a shattered rear window of the vehicle and immediately initiated a traffic stop at Abbott Road and Chester Street.

Police say at the time they detained Lawrence and Davis for questioning. They now say that Lawrence has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, not havign a driver's license and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. They say Davis has been released.

Sabb was taken to Memorial Medical Center Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
