A naked suspect seen wandering around Spanish Wells Plantation was arrested Friday afternoon after breaking into a home on Brams Point Rd.

At approximately 10:45 am this morning, Sheriff’s deputies responded to Spanish Wells Plantation after receiving a call about a suspicious black male subject, wearing nothing but a single sock, walking down the street, grabbing his genitals and mumbling.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the suspect had since disappeared into the residence located at 29 Brams Point Rd. A few moments later, deputies made contact with 22-year old Jarrett Borton, who advised he had been staying at the home, which belongs to his parents. Borton stated that earlier that morning, he had been home alone when the suspect, whom he knew from previously attending high school with as 22-year old Leandre Nicholson, came to the house.

Borton stated that he heard a knock at, then Nicholson entered the home through a back door. Nicholson appeared disoriented, asking for help and mumbling incoherently. Borton attempted to get Nicholson to leave, however Nicholson became increasingly agitated. Nicholson grabbed a nearby bottle and smashed it, cutting his hand in the process. At that time, a brief struggle ensued between Borton and Nicholson, as Borton attempted to get Nicholson out of the home.

Borton then fled the residence, running out to his car to go get help. Nicholson followed Borton out, pulling up a landscape light from the driveway and throwing it at Borton’s car as Borton drove away.

At some point following Borton’s departure, Nicholson removed his clothing and began wandering around the neighborhood before returning to and re-entering the Borton home.

Members of the K-9 Team, SWAT Team, and Negotiations Team responded to the home and made contact with Nicholson, who was still inside. After failed attempts to get Nicholson to exit the residence on his own accord, SWAT Team members deployed a less-than-lethal foam projectile at Nicholson. Nicholson was then successfully subdued and taken into custody.

Borton was uninjured during the initial incident. Nicholson was transported to Hilton Head Regional Medical Center for treatment and evaluation. Upon release, he will be transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center where he will face charges of 1st-degree Burglary and Assault and Battery. Additional charges of Malicious Injury to Property and Indecent Exposure are also pending.
