BLAINE, Wash. (AP) - Iraq War resister Cliff Cornell, who fled to Canada, is returning to Fort Stewart, Ga., to face a charge of being absent without leave.

His lawyer, James Branum in Lawton, Okla., said Friday that Cornell would turn himself in Tuesday at the Army base near Savannah.

Branum says Cornell voluntarily returned to the United States on Wednesday from British Columbia. He was arrested by Custom and Border Protection officers at Blaine and spent a night in the Whatcom County Jail in Bellingham. Branum says the Army agreed to let Cornell travel by bus to Georgia.

The 29-year-old from Mountain Home, Ark., was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 39th Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Stewart. He fled to Canada four years ago after his unit was ordered to Iraq.
