Hampton County Sheriff's Office is seeking a suspect involved in a car chase with a HCSO deputy Friday night.
The incident began around 11 p.m. Friday night on Old Orangeburg Road when the deputy observed a vehicle traveling left of the center line, failing to yield for a stop sign.
When the deputy tried to pull the car over, the suspect accelerated and continued to travel at a high rate of speed south on Old Orangeburg Road before turning west on Smart Road, losing control of the vehicle. The spinning vehicle struck the left front corner of the police car, causing moderate damage.
The suspect then continued driving, failing to stop as the car continued east on Smart Road. The vehicle later left the roadway in the yard of a residence at 232 Smart Road and two suspects exited the vehicle.
The passenger was detained and interviewed before being turned over to EMS due to a complaint of back pain. The South Carolina Highway Patrol was also notified and responded to the scene for an accident report.
The driver, who fled the scene on foot, was identified by the passenger. Deputies have been unable to locate the driver.
