South Carolina's Senate minority leader
says Gov. Mark Sanford should visit the Dillon school that
President Obama highlighted in a speech this week.
Democratic Sen. John Land of Manning wants the Republican
Sanford to visit J.V. Martin Junior High School, a school that
Obama visited as a candidate.
An eighth-grader at the school, Ty'Sheoma Bethea, was with first
lady Michelle Obama in Washington for the speech Tuesday after
writing a letter urging Congress to send money to fix schools.
Land said Sanford should cut back on his national travels
criticizing the president's stimulus package to visit the school.
Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer told The Post and Courier of
Charleston that Sanford has visited many distressed schools in
rural areas of South Carolina and is pushing for change.
