There are some big changes in the government's converter box coupon program.
If you want to keep using your older TV and antenna, after February 17, you need a converter.
The coupon program, started to help lower the cost of a converter, is out of money. As of Sunday, January 3rd, anyone who asks for a coupon is being put on a waiting list.
People on the waiting list will get a coupon only when an unused coupon expires. The list already has more than 100,000 on it.
Here's the bottom line - some people on the waiting list will probably get coupons, but many won't, especially by the February 17 changeover. You can still buy a converter but the coupons do help lessen the sting.
Remember, if you're on a cable or satellite system, you don't need a converter. It's only for older analog TV’s running off a home antenna.
If you do want to request a coupon, the number is 888-DTV-2009.
