Serena Williams To Defend SC Title

Defending champion Serena Williams will be back at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston this spring.

Defending champion Serena Williams will
be back at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston this spring.
Tournament officials say Williams, ranked No. 2 in the world, is
scheduled to play in the clay-court event in April. The tournament
will take place from April 13-19.
It will be the sixth trip to the Family Circle for Williams, who
has won nine Grand Slam titles in her career. Williams says she
loves the Family Circle's atmosphere and looks forward to her title
defense.
Williams defeated Vera Zvonareva in three sets to win last
year's tournament. It was Williams' first clay-court title since
the 2002 French Open.
Family Circle officials said Zvonareva has also committed to
play in this year's event.
There is no word on whether Venus Williams will also play.
