A hospital bed maker is eliminating 90
jobs at a South Carolina plant as it moves some manufacturing from
North Charleston to its Indiana headquarters.
Hill-Rom Holdings Inc. said Wednesday the move is part of an
effort to reduce costs.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported the Batesville,
Ind., company said it is trimming its U.S. payroll by 300 positions
because of a drop in demand for its products.
Hill-Rom has about 350 workers in North Charleston.
Company spokeswoman Lauren Green-Caldwell says the area affected
by the cuts makes parts for highly specialized therapeutic hospital
beds. It was unclear when the move will occur.
Green-Caldwell says the North Charleston plant will continuing
making a device that clears the airways of people with respiratory
problems.
