Patrice Grant enjoys shopping. Like most women she found it hard to part with barely worn clothes and some with the tags still attached.
her answer came four years ago.
"I lost 60 pounds and I had a lot of nice suits that I wanted to consign. I didn't want to give them away," says Patrice.
So Patrice made her business selling clothes. She opened Simply Chic Consignment Boutique from scratch. Now that the economy is on a diet, Patrice is gaining more customers. "Sales have definitely been up and also people bringing in consignment or items that they want to sell."
The economy may be hurting retailers, but Patrice is not complaining. "Consignment shops have absolutely boomed. We have seen a lot more people coming who wouldn't ever have thought of consignment shops a year ago." Bottom line more people are Simplifying their lives, trying to make a buck and save.
"People are realizing now that maybe it's time to downsize instead of upgrade so the average woman who was buying who had 30 pair of pants in their closet are now saying okay maybe now I only need 15. So with that 15 they're saying I can make some money. I'm going to try consignment."
Here's how the process works. You take your clothes in.
Patrice checks to see if they can sell them for you.
They're on consignment for 60 days, and Patrice splits the profit with you 50/50.
