Many of our local leaders were in our nation's capitol to witness history first-hand.
Including Congressman John Barrow and Savannah Mayor Otis Johnson-- who told News Three by phone that today is one of the greatest days of his life.
Otis Johnson: It is a great day for all Americans because we are only about 12 percent of the population so there is no way in the world that if every black person in America had voted for Obama, he still might not have been President, so it was the coalition he built across racial lines, across class lines, across sexual preference lines, across every line that has traditionally divided us as Americans, he was able to bridge those gaps and that's why he is the 44th President of the United States.
John Barrow: Many folks who didn't vote for this President realize nonetheless that the success of his administration will mean a great deal to the well being of the country as a whole, so many people are putting aside their preferences in offering their support to this administration in hopes this administration can get this country going again.
Republican Congressman Jack Kingston says he's confident all Americans heard Obama's call to be proud of who we are, stick together and we can do great things.
