Gambling Operation Busted in Effingham
Seven Effingham County convenience stores were raided and shut down this morning during a commercial gambling sting.

Effingham County Sheriffs deputies along with officers with the Rincon Police Department, Springfield Police Department, and Guyton Police Department, raided seven Effingham County convenience stores Thursday morning during a commercial gambling sting.
The Effingham County Sheriffs Office Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a six month long investigation into illegal gambling after authorities received multiple complaints from citizen’s and from local law enforcement agencies in reference to several stores in the area providing cash payouts to individuals playing video poker machines within the businesses.
Investigators have recovered approximately 30 machines and seized a large amount of cash from the businesses which were raided. The search warrants were conducted simultaneously.
Sheriff McDuffie said “Businesses who operate these machines and issue cash payouts are in violation of Georgia law. We are grateful to the citizens who brought this illegal activity to our attention and to the investigators who worked so hard to conduct a thorough investigation. “ The Effingham County Sheriffs Office worked in the partnership of local municipalities in executing these search warrants.
Several individuals were arrested in this operation and more arrests are expected.
