The City of Port Wentworth is cutting back.
The council has decided to contract with Republic Waste for garbage services instead of having city employees collect garbage.
Mayor Glenn Jones says it will save the city one hundred thousand dollars.
The bad news is four City Employees were laid off.
“I think we need to have a public meeting for our patrons and let them know how this is going to work so it is something in progress,” explains Mayor Jones.
Republic will take over at the beginning of February; a disruption in service is not expected.
In march however the plan is for them to start collecting recyclables also.
