The Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA) will host its 9th Annual Adult Spelling Bee on Friday, February 6, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at the Marine Corps Air Station Officers’ Club. The event is sponsored by SCE&G.
This event is always hilariously entertaining filled with fun, friends, cocktails, and a little friendly competition! The rules are simple – gather together a team of four adults, ask a local business or individual to sponsor your team ($175), fundraise for word passes to get you through the “sticky situations” when you misspell words, and have a good time – all while raising money to help sustain child abuse prevention and intervention programs in Beaufort County.
The Spelling Bee is friendly and participants spell as a team, not as individuals. Words are selected by a local librarian from actual words lists used for Scripps National Spelling Bees for youth. When your team spells a word incorrectly, buy your way out with a “Word Mulligan” for $20 (or buy 6 for $100 prior to the start of the event). The last team standing is the winner. Prizes are awarded to the teams coming in first, second, and third places. Prizes are also awarded for the most creative team name and costume, so start thinking now and “bee” original. The costumes and cocktails are optional, but they sure help to take the sting out!
All donations are 100% tax deductible and benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Association, a United Way agency. A cash bar will be available and light refreshments will be served. Anyone under 21 years of age will not be allowed to enter. Please contact Katie Grindle or Gloria Duryea at 843.524.4350 or capa714@earthlink.net with any questions or to receive a team registration form.
