The Effingham County Sheriffs Office would like to issue a warning to citizens that Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies have received complaints in reference to a possible scam.
According to citizen reports, three young white males approached a female at her residence and advised her they were with Sherwin Williams Store. They offered to re seal her roof and pressure wash her residence.
The subjects collected a large sum of cash from the individual and left the scene driving a white GMC or Chevy truck with a cover over the bed liner. There are a total of four young white males and an older white male possibly involved.
Sheriffs Officials have also received complaints from citizens who advised two young females have been approaching houses and attempting to sell magazines. Some citizens have described these females to be “ pushy “. We have received information that when the doors were not being answered, they would look around the residence and through the windows.
Any citizen who is approached by a salesperson at their residence is encouraged to ask the solicitor to produce a permit which has been approved by the Effingham County Sheriff. Anyone who solicits in Effingham County without an approved permit is in violation of County ordinance.
Anyone who comes in contact with suspicious individuals who are soliciting services and do not have a permit or may not seem legitimate, is encouraged to contact the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
