As much as you enjoy the crackle, pop, and bright colors of fireworks be careful. Fireworks are not to be played with. The majority of injuries happen to kids under the age of 15. "So if parents are letting their children play with the fireworks without adult supervision or the kids start playing almost like wars with the fireworks they're throwing them at each other ...Aiming at each other this is where a lot of the significant injuries occur. And even when it comes to injuries such as sparklers that most people find harmless they burn at a significant temperature. Kids will grab the wrong end and cause pretty significant burns to their extremities," says Dr. Jay Goldstein, Director of Emergency Services at Memorial Health. Dr. Goldstein says the majority of fireworks injuries they see at memorial have been burns to the hands. He recommends you take you family to enjoy a professional show.
