There are a lot of emotions that accompany buying a new home, usually, happiness, a feeling of accomplishment, security in the future.
But for some homeowners in Stonewater, a development in Pooler, those good feelings have, literally, been washed away.
Broken pipes have flooded a number of homes.
In the case News 3 Community Reporter Alice Massimi is about to show you, not once.... not twice.... yes, three different times.
Look at this.....and think about your reaction if this was your house.
“I got a call from the neighbor Bruce, he told me I needed to get out here immediately. He said the water is pouring out of the walls of your son’s home,” explains Alfreda Goldwire.
Rushing over to the home this is what Goldwire.... sopping wet carpet, damaged furniture and linoleum peeling off the floor.
“This is where it all started from,” Goldwire explains while pointing to one of the bathrooms.
She says it's nothing new at her son's home or a number of others in this Pooler subdivision.
“65 percent of people in this area have experienced the same kind of problem, their insurance has been cancelled and they are with high risk insurance companies,” she explains.
Alfreda says she's heard similar stories.
One woman who had a pipe burst had to pull up new hard wood floors.
“There is one family in here they have capped the original plumbing and now they have the plumbing coming through the attic.”
Watching the home for her son, Alfreda is beside herself, so she contacted the builder, Fred Williams.
“I spoke to Mr. Williams this morning and he tells me that the soil in this area has acid in it and because of the acid in the soil it eats away the copper pipes.”
I talked to Fred Williams too. He says the soil wasn't tested....that there's no requirement to do that.
He repeatedly said simply that homeowners need to have insurance.
Which Alfreda says her son had, but not anymore... after two or three claims you can be dropped...which is what their insurance provider did.
“This is insane and I don't see how he gets by with it and people still allow him to do it. I don't understand.”
So, what's next? Well, the home warranty has expired and Alfreda says the insurance company has cancelled its policy. She says she, and others, are investigating filing a class action lawsuit.
