In cooperation with hundreds of law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Marshals Service says thousands of criminals are off the streets, including hundreds in south Georgia and in South Carolina.
U.S. Marhsal James T. Roberts announced 326 fugitives were arrested and 500 warrants cleared during Operation Falcon 2009, held last month in the Southern District of Georgia. About 80 local law enforcement agencies in 43 counties worked with federal authorities.
The local agencies provided some 280 law enforcement officers to assist in the operation. All were sworn in as special deputy U.S. Marshals.
Roberts says arrests were made around the clock during the week of June 8-13.

In South Carolina, federal, state and local authorities helped arrest 769 fugitives, including 36 sex offenders and 20 Failure to register fugitives. Officials also cleared 1,393 warrants.
Operation Falcon 2009 was conducted nationwide in all 94 U.S. Marshal districts, netting a total 35,190 fugitives.
Since 2005, Operation Falcon has resulted in more than 91,000 arrests and cleared more than 117,000 warrants. Click here to read the National release.
