In an effort to save money across the state, the governor requested that all school districts furlough employees for three days.
While Chatham County hasn't decided on when the days off without pay will be, Effingham County employees know their schedules.
Employees who work 190 days or more will have furloughs on August 4th, October 22nd and December 18th. Those were scheduled planning days, so student learning will not be affected.
Maintenance and central office employees will have December 28th - 30th as their three days off without pay.
“What type of reaction have you been getting from teachers, faculty and staff?
“Actually they've been very understanding. It's a difficult time and our economy is in a difficult situation now and everybody in the district understands that, but it's better to take a few furlough days than somebody lose their job. So, our county recognizes that and our county is very good about working with individuals, helping them keep their jobs,” explains Robert Porterfield, principal at Effingham County Middle School.
Teachers were back in school working to get their classrooms set up today. The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 5th.
