In honor of Flag Day the West Chatham American Legion held a ceremony.
The purpose of the event is to encourage people to properly dispose of unserviceable flags by fire in a dignified way.
For example if a flag is faded or torn you can't just throw it away.
“All the citizens from West Chatham, and even Savannah brought in their flags to West Chatham American Legion post for disposal,” explains Garden City Fire Chief James Crosby.
The American Legion in conjunction with the Garden City Fire Department says they're hoping to hold the event more often.
Flag Day celebrates the adoption of the stars and stripes which happened in 1777.
