Police say a Savannah mother is behind bars after she left her children abandoned in her car.
Around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police got a 911 call from a concerned person, who said she saw a woman beating two children in the parking lot at the Georgia Department of Labor. The caller said the woman then put the kids in a van and left them unattended.
Police responded 14 minutes after the original call and found two 8-month-old children inside the van. The children were turned over to EMS and taken to Memorial Medical Center as a precaution.
Authorities say they found the children's mother, Lesha Green, 24, inside the Georgia Department of Labor building. Police say after questioning, Green was told she was being arrested.
Police say Green then tried to run away, but officers were able to catch up with her. Green is charged with two counts of cruelty to a child in the second degree and one count of obstruction.
The children’s condition is not known.
