Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey says
honesty may be the best policy in saving South Carolina Gov. Mark
Sanford's career.
McGreevey said Thursday on NBC's "Today" that he could relate
to the emotions Sanford felt when he announced his extramarital
affair.
McGreevey says: "I'm filled with a sense of pain and anguish
for him and his family."
Nearly five years ago, McGreevey announced that he had an
extramarital affair with another man and would resign. But he says
he doesn't necessarily think Sanford's political career is over.
Says McGreevey: "He can be that much more of a better governor
because it's admitting his nature, understanding the wrongs."
McGreevey asked that people extend compassion to Sanford during
this "very stressful" time.
