LOS ANGELES (AP) - It's no secret that Michael Jackson was a big fan of Walt Disney and everything Disney created.
Associated Press reporter Bob Thomas, who wrote a book about Disney, recalls getting a phone call out of the blue from Jackson back in the mid-1980s, inviting him over to talk about Disney. He went to Jackson's home, where Jackson asked him questions in a room featuring a life-sized studio portrait of Disney himself.
Toward the end of the chat, Jackson asked whether Disney had ever used a certain expletive. Thomas replied that he'd never heard him use it.
A few months later, Jackson called again, asking if Hazel George was still alive. She was Disney's longtime nurse. Thomas found that she was still living near the Disney lot, and, at Jackson's request, arranged for a meeting. He says Jackson seemed fascinated by her stories, but barely said a word.
A few more months passed, and Jackson wanted to talk again about Disney. Thomas says they got together, and Jackson again asked questions, most of which he had already asked during the first visit.
And once again, Jackson asked whether Disney had ever used a certain expletive. This time, Thomas remembered that he had done so on at least one occasion. He told Jackson about it and says Jackson's response was simply, "Oh."
That was the last time the two ever met.
